The Professional Choir of Bayamo, one of the emblematic institutions of culture of Granma, this January 7th,  is turning 59th anniversary of its foundation.

Mercedes Gómez Paumier, director of the choral group, affirms that passion and dedication are essential in this work. For her to continue the legacy of great personalities, who led the choir is a challenge that she faces with pleasure.

¨This is a great challenge, because it was founded by the Maestro René Capote, who I greatly admired him. I am very sorry not to have been under his direction. Then, the choir was directed by Andrés Arriasa, another excellent Maestro. It was by chance that, I entered in the Choir under the direction of Mercedes Cedeño, from which I took all the knowledge she gave us¨, she noted.

¨The fact it that the academy gives us tools, but in reality, in the practice during the work in the Choir, is where we really receiving training and knowledge¨, she stated.

Heir to a centuries-old tradition of choral development in this eastern region, the group performs Renaissance, Baroque, Contemporary, universal and Cuban music.

This Thursday, at eight o’clock at night, that institution Granma´s art performances will offer a concert at the 20 de Octubre House of Culture on the occasion of almost six decades enriching Cuban culture.
