Important collections of documents conserved in Granma

Actions carried out by specialists from the Historical Archives Network of Granma allow the preservation of great importance documentation for the historical memory of the nation.

The chance to discover the past through important documents is the one granted today by the network of Historical Archives of the province.

Haydee Gómez Fonseca, deputy director of the ¨José Manuel Carbonell Alart Provincial Historical Archive highlights how the network of this type of institutions behaves in the province.

¨Currently, the network is made up of a provincial historical archive, three municipal archives in Jiguaní, Manzanillo and Niquero and we safeguard 91 documentary funds and 15 collections, which are put at the service of users, researchers and around 850 linear meters of documentation since 1766 until 2014¨, she noted.

¨Also, we are enriched by the documentation of the Municipal and Provincial Assemblies of the People´s Power and their dependencies¨.

The Archives maintain the mission of safeguarding, preserving, processing and disseminating historical and permanent valuable documents, as well as taking into account some regulations from the point of view of the entry of documentation to this type of institution.

When it comes to preserving the historical memory of the nation, an essential part of this process corresponds to the archivists.
