A group of 100 university students and young workers joined the agricultural activities today at the Cinco Palmas urban vegetable garden, in this city, in response to the call from the highest authorities of the country to face the current energy situation in Cuba.

Under the famous phrase by the Commander of the Revolution Juan Almeida Bosque: No one here is going to surrenders …!, the contingent carries out several  tasks, which is part of the initiatives and measures implemented in the eastern province of Granma to maintain and above all provide the basic services to the people.

These boys and girls will travel by bicycle to different urban agriculture areas in the capital of the territory, where they will contribute to the food production activities during 15 days.

Adolfo Tamayo Carrillo, first secretary of the Union of Young Communists (UJC) in Bayamo, told the ACN that, among others, the brigade consists of young people from the University of Granma, the provincial court, the 30th Anniversario de la Batalla de Guisa High School, and the Bayamo Oeste polyclinic.

This first week at  the “Cinco Palmas” -he said- they will work from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in activities such as cleaning of allotments and the ground, application of organic matter, and later they will be moved to other vegetable gardens.

At the same time as it constitutes a support for the Cuban government, and for the revolutionary reaffirmation in the face of the new aggressiveness escalation of the US imperialism, the initiative also is among the actions in greeting to the XI Congress of the UJC, a celebration to be held on April, 2020, he added.

The No one here is going to surrenders! brigade received the flag this morning, at the Antonio (Ñico) López Museum Park, with the presence of the first secretary of the youth organization in Granma, and the highest political and governmental authorities of the municipality of Bayamo.
