Young people and member of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) from the province of Granma paid tribute in this city today to the Cuban heroine Rosa María Castellanos, Rosa La Bayamesa, on the occasion of the 112 anniversary of her death.

The remembrance took place at the monument that perpetuates the memory of the legendary combatant, who stood out for her selfless work as a nurse during the war of independence in the 19th century.

Convened by the Federation of Cuban Women in the territory, members of the organization and students of the Juan Vitalio Acuña Polytechnic Institute took part in a lecture on the life and work of the patriot, by the Professor Magdeline Reynaldo Ramos, from the University of Granma.

Rosa was a black woman and slaves’ daughter, she was born in Bayamo in 1830, dedicated her life to the struggle for the independence of Cuba since October 10th, 1868, also she served as a cook, washer and explorer, and died in Camaguey on September 25, 1990.

Caridad Herrera, the FMC ideological official in Granma, told that the tribute to the Mambisa captain also become a space for denouncing the resurgence of the genocidal policy of aggression and blockade of the United States against Cuba. (ACN / PHOTO: File)
