The Cupaynicú Botanical Garden, considered three of the most important in Cuba, achieved significant results in its management, protection and scientific activity during the past year.
As it was reflected in the annual balance held this Wednesday in this protected park, there are the impact of five technological innovation projects undertaken, as well as the awards achieved, among them the Botanist Juan Acuña Sagué Award, presented to the researcher Raúl Verdecia Pérez.

Likewise, it advances in the implementation of an internal network and Internet services through a wifi-Nauta zone at the Ranchon complex and in the developing of a project with GEOCUBA on geo-referencing of the garden´s floristic inventory, which will place it at the forefront of computerization in the country.

Among the results there are also the achieving of 5 species reported for the first time in the eastern Cuban zone, the conservation strategy to the Begonia Coweli and the biodiversity conservation program, as well as the environmental education promoted to visitors to the area.

The actions of the Tarea Vida  are also highlighted, related to the strengthening of capacities for the implementation of living barriers in the Gulf of Guacanayabo, while the work with the popular gardens progresses, through the training of the producers and the improvement in the state of preservation of the species.

In the analysis of the main results of the Cupaynicú Botanical Garden during the 2018, its director Yolemnis Rodríguez referred among the challenges the service of welcome foreign tourists to the guided tour and hiking, main services of this protected area.

In this regard, she pointed out it is necessary to take advantages of the Captus Botanical Garden of Pilón, one of the most  preserved in the country and located in the most important tourist resort of the province.

Located in the Sierra Maestra foothills in the Granma municipality of Guisa, the Cupaynicú Botanical Garden will host the second edition of the National Festival of the Earth, an event designed to promote the protection of the environment.
