Through teaching materials made by her hands, the young librarian Ariadna Romero manages to approach the literature to the children in the mountainous community of Sao Grande, in the Sierra Maestra.

As part of her work in three primary schools of the Mariana Grajales Zonal Directorate, in Bartolomé Masó, this creative and tireless woman manages to enchant children with wise and necessary reading, without technology.

From my library, with the support of the teachers, the pioneers and even the family, I organize and carry out the work in order to guarantee the quality of the activities. We also develop special morning, literary talks and the book promotion in the community, she explained.

Romero, added that, all this work has favored the reading promotion, which is showed in the increasing number of spontaneous visits of the students to the library and to the healthy recreation area located in front of the school. Also, it is evident in the result of reading tests where students have shown a better understanding.

Dayán Céspedes Romero is one of the over 100 children of the Sao Grande mountainous community, who have cultivated the love of books in his visits to the library.

In the library we assemble exhibitions, restore damaged books, carry out talks about books in the community and help children who have reading difficulties to improving reading, he noted.

Also in the library the librarians explain us about the life and work of our heroes and martyrs, and teach us to love more our homeland, he stated.

With more than 15 years of work, the young librarian Ariadna Romero Mariño goes through the mountains carrying on her teaching aidds every day, made by her and the pioneers, with resources provided by all.

I made thse materials with the aim that  the children acquire better the knowledge. I assist three schools in the zonal directorate, to which I have to take these teaching aids to bring the students the knowledge of what is here within the library, she explained.

These books that we have created, consists of the biography and work of some Cuban writers of the children’s literature such as: Dora Alonso, Herminio Almendro, Nicolás Guillen, among others, as well as another one of the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, of the volume Five, where we find photographs of his childhood, and other interesting thing, she stated.

Recognized in the Cuban community of librarians who work in schools, Ariadna Romero enhances through its work the importance of books and ensures that children can grow up through its stories.
