At seven o’clock in the morning, thousands of polling places opened for the Cubans to support the new Magna Carta after an extensive and participatory process of constitutional reform that began in the mid of last year.
After singing the National Anthem and showing those present that the ballot boxes are empty, citizens attend the polling stations to vote for a text that introduces important changes aimed at adjusting to the current realities of the country.
A team of Radio Bayamo Digital confirmed that since very early hours of this morning, lines were formed in front of the polling stations. That early vote and the fact that pioneers guard the ballot boxes has become a democratic tradition on the island.
The new Law that is submitted to a referendum was approved last December by the National Assembly of People’s Power . The new Constitution ratifies Cuba´s socialist nature, the leading role of the Communist Party in society and also validates the private property as an additional economic component.
