With the opening lecture “Higher Education and Local Systems of Innovation” by the Doctor of Sciences Jorge Núñez Jover, coordinator of the University Network of Innovation and Knowledge Management for Local Development, started today in Bayamo the 7th Cuban Congress on Local Development , event that brings together more than 300 Cuban and foreign delegates.
The opening gala took place at the Bayamo Theater and was attended by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Doctor of Science Aurora Fernández among other distinguished guests, as well as the main authorities of the province, Cuban and foreign delegates and students of the University of Granma.
The master in science Narcy Bueno Figueras, rector of the University of Granma, welcomed the participants, while underlining the importance of this academic meeting, which is focus on promoting scientific exchange on central issues that provide to territorial development.
In her welcome speech, she stressed that “this scientific event responds to the need to turn Cuban universities into centers that promote local development, laboratories and science forces, as one of the main objectives of the Ministry of Higher Education’s objective”.
The Seventh Cuban Congress on Local Development, based in Bayamo, will be held today in several halls of the Sierra Maestra Hotel and has five exchange spaces related to sustainable agriculture and vegetable biotechnology, production and animal health, pedagogy for development and physical activity and sports.
Also in the afternoon will be the signing of an agreement between the University of Granma, host of the event and academic institutions of Colombia, one of the 16 nations represented in this Congress, which is attended by about 80 foreign delegates.
The seventh Cuban Congress on Local Development, which opened today in Bayamo, aims to implement strategies for sustainable local progress, spread out scientific advances of international reach in several areas of knowledge, exchange experiences and strengthen relations in the field of research and technological innovation.
