With the symbolism and patriotism of the inhabitants of this island, the 24th edition of the Festival of Cuban Identity began today in Bayamo, an event that highlights the most authentic aspects of our culture.

The Plaza de la Revolución of the capital city of Granma hosted the opening of the event in the presence of political authorities, invited guests, artists and the general public.

A ceremony of the flags, the path of the Ceremonial Sword of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, object that presides over the Festival, the entrance of the Guerrilla de Teatreros representing the Mambi´s cavalry and the performance of local outstanding musicians were part of the opening.

PhD. Eduardo Torres Cuevas, President of the Cuban Academy of History, at the opening speech of the event highlighted the value of being in the Cradle of Cuban Nationality celebrating the fact of being Cubans.

Also the Director of the José Martí National Library, said that Bayamo wrote great pages for history and for national culture.

Likewise, the 1868 exhibition: Initiators and Martyrs was opened at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Birthplace Museum this morning.

It exhibits objects belonging to the Emilio Bacardí Museums of the province of Santiago de Cuba and of the Birthplace of the Father of the Nation in this city of Bayamo.

Among the relics shown are the ceremonial sword of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, a bust of Pedro Figueredo, the desk and personal belongings of Francisco Vicente Aguilera and a gearwheels of the Pilar de Jucaibama sugar mill.
