In solemn ceremony at the Plaza de la Patria of Bayamo, the Provincial Electoral Council of Granma was constituted today and its members took office, in order to comply with the provisions of Article 23, section two of Electoral Law number 127.

During the opening act, Manuel Félix Roig, representing the National Electoral Council, announced that the Provincial Electoral Council is chaired by Antonio de Marcos Ramírez Matos.

Manuel Santiago Sobrino Martínez, President of the Provincial Assembly of Peoplé s Power of Granma, indicated that the constitution of this body entails a high responsibility and commitment.

 

Sobrino Martínez stressed that the Granma Electoral Council consists of talented men and women; which will have the greater honor at all times of the oath they have signed, which refers sacred principles of our Socialist System such as: loyalty, transparency, legality, truthfulness and ethics .

The constitution and inauguration of the provincial Electoral Council of Granma was chaired by the member of the Central Committee and first Secretary of the Party in Granma, Federico Hernández, as well as other representatives of the political body, the mass organizations and the Ministry of Interior.

According to the provisions of the Law, the electoral council has the function of organizing, directing and securing electoral processes, popular consultations where appropriate,  and referendums that are convened. (Text and photos: Marisela Presa Sagué)
