The provincial Culture Award, and the Víctor Montero Distinction, were granted in Granma to intellectuals, artists, writers, researchers and teachers with valuable contributions to the cultural life of the territory, on the occasion of the Culture Worker´s Day this celebrated on December 14.

The archaeologist José Manuel Yero Masdeu, along with Juan González Fife, founder of the Andante theater group; the poet Luis Carlos Suárez; and the teacher Magalis Osorio, were awarded with the Víctor Montero Distinction.

In the Literature category, the provincial prize went to Juventina Soler Palomino, writer, researcher and cultural promoter with more than 25 years of work in the sector; and in the Music section Pedro Reynaldo Alarcón Cedeño, was awarded, also deserving of the Award for Musical Excellence.

The historian José Antonio Matilla, who directs the Office of Monuments and Historic Center of Manzanillo, won the recognition of Cultural Heritage; in Artistic Teaching the award went to María de los Ángeles Aguilera; and Ludín Fonseca, historian of the city of Bayamo, received the Research prize.

The Provincial Award for Community Culture went to Aliannis Tamayo, leader of the Colmenita Travesía Mágica project; in the Art Instructor category, Elena Vila Leyva received the award; and Fernando Muñoz Carrazana, director of the Alas D’ Cuba, theater group was distinguished in Performing Arts.

Among the winners were Teófila Acea Antúnez, in the Libraries section; Migdalia Mendoza Vega, on the Radio; Jacqueline Pérez, in Cultural Journalism; and Marilín Infante López, in the Television section.

In the award ceremony that took place at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Birthplace Museum were present Yordan Roberto León, provincial director of Culture, artists, and leaders of cultural institutions of the territory.
