The National Culture Distinction was awarded to Teófila Acea Antúnez, president of the José Martí Cultural Society in Granma, for her contribution to the heritage of Cuban culture.

This tireless worker of that branch in the province affirms that this recognition surprised her, but at the same time motivates her to going forward.

This recognition surprised me. As, some eight days ago they asked me for the curriculum that I had to send to the Jose Martí Program Office. I did it, but I never thought it was really for that. And when they called me and told me that, I was very surprised. Because I think that all I have done is to fulfill my duty, and do it with love, she noted.

This recognition is a commitment, now I must draw up new challenges to be in keeping with that distinction which is a big honor for me, Acea stated.

The National Culture Distinctions will be granted to Teófila Acea Antúnez on October 2, along with other outstanding workers during an event that will take place at the Center for José Martí Studies.

Acea Antúnez has carried out an extensive work in the promotion and investigation of the life and work of our National Hero, José Martí, and at the same time she has developed an intense work in the librarianship branch in Granma which render her well deserving of several recognitions.
