Lawmakers from the People”s Power National Assembly met on Monday in Havana to debate on Internet access, e-government and other issues related to the computerization of society.
With the participation of President Miguel Diaz-Canel, the Commission for Service Attention addressed an issue that is a priority for the socio-economic development of the country.
The chairwoman of the parliamentary working group, Maria del Carmen Concepcion, submitted a report on the Commission’s monitoring of the steps taken to move forward with computerization.
According to the parliamentarian, important achievements have been made regarding Internet access, the use of ATMs and information and communication technologies in terms of cultural and social development.
First Deputy Minister of Communications Wilfredo Gonzalez informed the lawmakers about the progress in a process that President Diaz-Canel systematically checks.
According to the official, in the case of the e-government, the first of the four stages is still under way, and before the end of the year, the agencies of the Central State Administration and the territorial governments are expected to have their websites to strengthen links with citizens.
