About 100 young people from the province of Granma, who because of their outstanding careers participate in the second stage of A disfrutar Cuba summer camps, contributed this Tuesday to the sowing of cane in Granma, a province that is preparing for the beginning of the 2018-2019 harvest.
The work took place in areas of the Arquímedes Colina Base Enterprise Unit (UEB), located in Mabay, a zone belonging to Bayamo, where they planted one hectare with sugar cane, according to José Carlos de los Ríos Pacheco, director of Attention to Agricultural Producers in this entity.
He specified that the task was carried out with the jointly participation also of members of the two productive bases and other representatives of the Granma Sugar Company.
The homage to the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro, the music and joy of the youth, characterized the opening of the activity, which finally contributed a total of three hectares sown, he added.
From Monday, the Félix Varela special school, in Bayamo, welcomes those selected young people to enjoy the summer camp hosted by the Young Communists League (UJC) in the territory.
Until Saturday, the program includes varied recreational, cultural, social and economic interest activities, including visits to historic sites, tours through companies and exchanges with workers and residents in communities.
The contribution of the new generations in cane sowing works benefits a strategic sector for the province, which was very affected by the rains and had losses in the 2017-2018 harvest.
For this reason, to reverse this productive deficit and to take the most of the harvest time, the workers of the Granma Sugar Company are trained, repair plants, machinery and means of transport, and advance all the preparations for the 2018-2019 campaign, which foresee to start the coming December.
