
Two companies and six renowned figures in the province of Granma were granted on Tuesday the Provincial Environment Awards for their contribution to the preservation of nature and sustainable development in different sectors.
During an activity on occasion of World Environment Day, held at the 10 de Octubre Theater, Ernesto Palacio Verdecia from the Flora and Fauna Company in the municipality of Niquero won the award for his over 25 year dedication to the protection and management of the Desembarco del Granma National Park.
Professors Esther Salgueiro Alvarez and Jesus Domenech Castillo, both from the Territorial office of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment were also awarded for their recognized work in favor of the province’s economic and social progress.
The efficient use and recycling of water, a bio-digester for the treatment of the liquid residues and other actions underway exemplifying the possibility of achieving a sustainable agriculture development, minimizing the negative impacts of the environment gave Jorge Milian Zaldivar from the El Ingenito Farm in Bayamo the award.
Adalis Labrada Espinosa from the branch of the Efrain Benitez Popa School of Medicine and PhD Luis Manuel Diaz-Granado Bricuyet both from the city of Bayamo, known as the National City Monument, were also awarded for their valuable contribution to the environmental education.
The Cuban Telecommunications Company in the territory and the Camaronera Base Company (Calisur) received the recognition for its innovative activity and the continued improvement of its processes, with quality and efficiency but without ignoring the harmony of the environment.
With sustained community work and the formation of an adequate environmental culture in new generations, Diaz-Granado Bricuyet spoke on behalf of those awarded and insisted in transformations and work for a sustainable development, starting from an individual space and carrying efforts to reach, local, regional and national goals.
