Thinking about the political life of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes was the title of the opening lecture of the International Book Fair in Granma by Dr. Olga Portuondo Zúñiga.

During the reflection, the leading role of the Cespedes’ family in the Ten´s Year War was highlighted and she emphasized that the most glorious feature of October 10th was that the hero of Bayamo proclaimed the independence of Cuba against Spain.

Portuondo Zuñiga highlighted that thanks to Céspedes, nowadays we remember the first 10 years of the struggle where the Cuban state began to make up.

The ethical value of those first days has spread as an ennoble moment where the inhabitants of this Island felt the pride of their common get together, and among all of them and as result of the Cuban thought stands out, which made the act of progress of Cuban culture most significant of all the 19th century, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, the Father of the Nation.

At the House of Cuban Nationality was held the dissertation that opened the academic program of the Book Fair.

On the first day, the distinguished researcher and historian of the Santiago de Cuba city received the recognition of the Provincial Center of the Book and the Literature, for her contributions and to honor the appointment with her presence.
