Gustavo Rodríguez Rollero, Minister of Agriculture, assessed the campaign of various crops (grains, tubers and vegetables) on Thursday in Granma, and the coffee and tobacco harvests, two of the exportable lines of the territory.

During the exchange with managers of the branch in the province,  the situation of the necessary resources to fulfill the plans in the rice sowing was checked.

Lázaro Díaz Rodríguez, Director of the Rice Technology Division in the Agricultural Business Group in the country, stressed that in recent years the Granma´s rice producers have improved in sowing and are ready to exceed in 2019 its historical record of production, equivalent to more than 82 thousand tons, harvested in 1986.

He added that for next year the province will provide 28 percent of the state assignment of that cereal, the favorite of the Cubans.

Rodríguez Rollero stressed issues related to the tobacco campaign, for which it is necessary to speed up the credits to producers, as well as to build and repair the infrastructures for curing process and storing of tobacco, in order to ensure the development of this export layer.

Alexander Rojas, delegate of the Agriculture in Granma, explained the progress on the integral recovery program of the Mártires de Artemisa Base Business Unit, which has 2 thousand hectares that will be sown as an agricultural productive pole in the municipality of Cauto Cristo.

The Minister stressed that precisely this November 15 begins the cold season, during which about 16 thousand hectares of rice are planned to plant in Granma territory, which along with another 22 thousand to sow in the coming spring stage, must produce 90 thousand tons of rice for the population, in 2019.

He added that in order to achieve this goal, assurances dealing with certified seed, water supply, fertilizers, machinery and industrial processing are guaranteed.

Rodríguez Rollero stressed the need for the entities of this branch to attend the cooperatives and strengthen the work of Acopio, promote traditional productions and add new ones.

In the working visit that the Minister of Agriculture made to the province Granma, he was accompanied by Federico Hernández Hernández, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and Manuel Santiago Sobrino Martínez, president of the Provincial Assembly of People´s Power in Granma.
