Cuba will be home from today until November 30 of a massive accountability process.
For this, more than 68 thousand meetings will be convened in the more than 12 thousand constituencies of the country, in which voters will participate in their areas of residence.
It will also be an opportunity to listen to the opinions of the people, after the energy shortage caused by the declared claim of the United States Government to cut off energy supplies to Cuba.
Given the lack of fuel that the island experienced in September, the Cuban Government implemented measures to guarantee basic services, minimize the impact on the population and maintain productive vitality despite saving measures.
The process beginning today fulfills the constitutional precept that every elected person must give an account of his performance, newspaper Granma underlines today.
The paper adds that it will also be an occasion for the delegate to argue and achieve citizen understanding about the causes of the energy situation, in order to promote citizen participation and stimulate collective energy saving. This has been an exhortation of President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who called the population and institutions to ‘think like a country’.
Prior to the exercise of accountability, and by constitutional mandate, the National Candidacy Commission, made up of proposed members of the most important and massive organizations of Cuban society, integrates the proposals of candidates for high state positions.
It is a process established by the new Electoral Law, approved in July as part of the Constitution that entered into force on April 10.
On October 10, in an extraordinary session, the National Assembly of People’s Power will elect among its members, by direct and secret vote, the president, vice president and secretary of that body and other members of the State Council, as well as the president and vice president of the Republic.(PL)
