The production of some 20 thousand square meters of marble´ slabs, destined for exports, would mean the return to worldwide trade of the largest Cuban rock processing industry, located in the town of Cautillo.

In the middle of a deep technological modernization, currently about to finish, the Manuel Hernández Osorio Combinado de Mármoles, of the Unidad Empresarial de Basa Mármoles Oriente, has active its two manufacturing lines and offers conditions to accept in its unit the blocks of different types of this stone, extracted from different parts of the country.

José Miguel Rodríguez, director of the marble industry, said that up to now they had processed some four thousand square meters of marbles among Rojo Campiña, from Cienfuegos, and Gris Siboney, from the Isla de la Juventud.

Also, other type is awaiting for the improving of mining development in the new local quarry of the Crema Valle rock, to be added as an exportable item.

Awaiting the definition of markets for the Siboney export, of the Ministry of Construction, the factory of Granma gathers productions in order to respond immediately to the possible demand, after three years of its last shipments abroad.

Rodríguez stressed that the local Crema Valle has always been the most demanded among the Cuban marbles, and that the current assortments are aiming to the national investments of tourism, public health and other sectors, hence their enlisting in the line of exportable slabs will depend of the increase of extractive works in quarry.
