Master of Science Ludin Fonseca García, historian of the Bayamo city

A homage was paid to La Bayamesa, the first romantic and troubadour musical piece composed in Cuba, this Friday in the 28 edition of the International Book Fair, which takes place in Granma.

The collection La Bayamesa, 165 años de su canto, includes articles published in different media and times, and in which several authors discuss and clarify data about that song that become in Cuban culture covered of certain mysticism, as stressed in the presentation of the book the compiler Ludín Fonseca García.

The historian of the city of Bayamo noted that the text delves into the questions related to the date of performance of the theme (1848 or 1851) when the anti-colonial conspirators Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Francisco Castillo and José Fornaris, sang it in a serenade close to the window of the patriotic girl Luz Vázquez y Moreno.

The historical clarifications made in the book provide a broader view of that piece of Cuban musical heritage and redefine its reach in both the national and international context, he said.

La Bayamesa, 165 años de su canto, published by the Bayamo publishing house, has among its features the printing on the cover of an original score of the work, signed by José Fornaris.

This collection includes articles by renowned Cuban intellectuals and historians, including José Maceo Verdecia, Enrique Lacalle Zausquet, and Zoila Lapique.

The 28th edition of the International Book Fair, in Granma, is dedicated to the bicentenary of the Father of the Nation Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, and the 150 anniversary of the burning of the city of Bayamo by its residents.

Until next Sunday, the festival of literature in the eastern territory makes available to the public 84 thousand 700 copies, including more than 200 novelties.
