Granma will host the main activities of the Day for Non Violence Gender against Women and Girls that will take place in the country from December 5 to 8, under the premise “Develop”.

The Day is sponsored by the Oscar Arnulfo Romero Center, the Cuban Women Federation, the National Sexual Education Center and the Center for Youth Studies.

It is, above all, a system of social integration where men and women are linked to put an end to violence against women and girls, an issue not always assumed by transgressors and in spite of the passing of the time.

The National Survey on Gender Equality of the Women’s Studies Center and the National Office of Statistics and Information indicates that 81 percent of the sample yielded that there is violence against women and girls, which indicates the existence of the problem.

According to the survey, the 27 percent of the women reported having received some type of psychological, sexual or economic physical abuse in the 12 prior months to the interview, studies that confirm the problem.

About violence against women, myths and ignorance still survive, that justify and reproduce patriarchal violence, being among the most established, the male chauvinist violence to consider it as a result of alcohol consumption, the belief that women can stand abuse because she likes it, and the theory that men also are victims of abuse.

As part of the Day for the Non-violence against Women, in Granma, special morning, conferences, sport events, audiovisual debates, book presentations, performances, concerts, workshops, bicycling marathon, parades, fairs and scientific events will take places in schools and workplaces.

The event is important to draw attention to the problem, the work to end violence against women must be an everyday action of the whole society.
