The cultural institutions and the people of Granma will celebrate with several initiatives the 55th anniversary of the Super Charanga Original de Manzanillo, an orchestra that has become an identity symbol not only of that coastal city but of whole Cuba.

The group was created by the coast shores, based on the trova, the Manzanillo´s  songón, the bolero and other rhythms of the eastern region that made up the genuine sound praised in Cuba and in the world, said Wilfredo (Pachy) Naranjo, director of the Original at a press conference.

The winner of the 2011 National Music Award, also highlighted that as part of the celebrations for the anniversary the orchestra will offer concerns in the municipalities of Jiguaní, Manzanillo, Buey Arriba, Niquero, Media Luna, Campechuela, Yara, and Bayamo.

Pachy Naranjo added that in the city of Manzanillo, on December 20, there will be a homage gala in which the orchestra will receive the recognitions of institutions of the territory.

On January 19, the Super Charanga of Cuba, will offer a concert at the stadium of the municipality of Manzanillo, where they will share the stage with orchestras and singers from different regions of the country.

The Original of Manzanillo, was founded on December 21, 1963. It has made undeniable contributions for more than five decades to the national heritage of dancing music, with anthological songs such as Un Poquito de muchachos, Traigo la última, and El calentico.

In its wide repertoire, genres such as guaracha, danzón, rumba, cha-cha-chá, and salsa and caribean rhythms are compiled, although the son is its main genre.
