The situation of the sugarcane sowing in the municipalities of Bartolomé Masó and Rio Cauto was assessed by the first secretary of the Communist Party (PCC) in Granma, Federico Hernández Hernández.

During the tour the Calixto García, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes (Basic Units of Cooperative Production) and the seed bank, located in the municipality of Bartolomé Masó, were visited.

In these units, Federico Hernandez called for efforts to increase the sowing of the sugarcane, which is at seventy percent in the province up to now.

The municipalities of Bartolomé Masó and Rio Cauto are in charge of the task of sowing cane for the 2019-2020  campaign, and between both territories more than 1,300 hectares must be planted before the end of the year.

There are one thousand 800 hectares of sugar cane to be planted in the Granma province to fulfill the plan at the end of December.

Among the main problems that affect the progress of the task is the humidity of the soil.

Liuver Fonseca Piñeiro, director of Attention to Agricultural Producers of the sugar company in the province explained that, there are humidity in soils in the five Basic Units of Cooperative Production.

In order to face this situation actions are carried out in Masó, in the Arquimides Colina the preparation of the soils began, in Grito de Yara also actions are implemented, which only represent the 40 % of the installed capacity that we have, which means that, there are much humidity in soils, he noted.

There is still a lot of humidity  in November and we have some situations with the field preparations that also imply that is longer those get dry, he added.

Fonseca explained that, for the soil preparation a strategy is implemented with provincial character, where the greatest sowing volumes for the campaign are concentrated.

We have great potentials that we could use at a crucial juncture, which are the equipment of agriculture, mainly those of the rice company, which serve us for the land preparation and even with great production, he added.

He also said that Granma has about two thousand hectares clean and that is planning to be demolished and prepared to plant next year.
