Before the situation in the country and the limitations to obtain resources and raw materials due to the resurgence of the blockade and the activation of the III Title of the Helms Burton law, a group of measures to increase food production are projected in the territory.

Fidel García Tensio, official of the Provincial People’s Power, said in an interview with Radio Bayamo that around 50 actions are being carried out in the territory, mainly in meat, fishing and agriculture enterprises, due to their great impact on society.

He commented that the deficit of wheat flour has led to the use of extenders in the preparation of sausages, croquettes, hamburgers, in addition, the processing of the casings of beef and pork for assortments such as chorizo, hot dog and sausage.

Likewise, the use of non-traditional flours such as rice and corn in the preparation of shaped fish products, an alternative that is enhanced in the territory by the deficit of pig meat.

The official of the Provincial People’s Power pointed out that the planting of plantains, cassava, sweet potatoes and pumpkin in the productive poles of Granma, mainly in Bayamo, to satisfy the demand for viands, a supply that today is not enough in the markets.

Another of the measures is the encouragement of productive linkages with the food industry and the mobilizations of workers every Sunday to support planting and harvesting of short-cycle crops.

Fidel García Tensio said that Granma is working to ensure stability in the network of stores and markets of basic items such as oil, chicken, and hygiene products and the entry of wheat flour.
He stressed that the current situation in the country, exacerbated by the activation of the III Title of the Helms Burton law, demands the effort of all, the union and the work of the people of Granma.
