Children and young people from the province of Granma will  show their talents in different artistic performances when they participating in the Por los Caminos de la Edad de Oro event, dedicated to the 166th birth anniversary of the Cuban National Hero, José Martí.

Convened every year by the House of Culture October 20th , to encourage new generations to study the Marti´s  life and work, the meeting will open with the awarding of the Para un amigo sincere fine arts traditional contest, and Cultivo una Rosa Blanca literary contest.

Teresa Márquez Labrada, specialist of the institution, told the ACN that later the participants will receive the lecture Bayamo desde la mirada martiana, in charge of the historian of the city, Ludin Fonseca Garcia.

Students of the senior high school will participate in the literary colloquy Por los caminos de la Edad de Oro( for the Golden Age´s path), and on Friday 25th,  schoolchildren and students of the high school will take part in the festivals Para un príncipe enano, Copa con Alas y Los dos príncipes, music, dance and theater, respectively, she reported.

She added that the jury of the different contest will be composed by outstanding poets and researchers of the territory, and the awarding gala will take place on Saturday 26th, at the Céspedes cinema.

Recognized as the most universal of Cubans, José Martí was born in Havana on January 28th , 1853, and was a writer, journalist, politician, poet, translator, diplomat and exceptional revolutionary.

Although he never visited the National Monument City, he loved it as the best of its son and wrote: “I have from Bayamo, its intrepid and natural soul”.

The hero lived his last 10 days in lands of the current province of Granma, where he drew up documents of great significance, such as the unfinished letter to Manuel Mercado, considered his political testament.
