The Cuban National Roads Center is planning to lay nearly 100,000 tons of asphalt on the National Highway this year as part of the country’s strategy to prevent further deterioration of the roads and promote their repair.
Raúl Díaz Guadarrama, director general of this entity attached to the Ministry of Transport, pointed out that so far the critical problems are in the sections of Cienfuegos and Mayabeque.
The maintenance and investments in the road network is prioritzing those roads that guarantee the island’s tourism development, followed by others such as Mariel Special Developmnt Zone, the National Speedway, the Central Highway and Via Blanca.
Diaz said that the organization’s main goals for 2020 is to increase the amount of asphalt destined to the Central Highway, prioritizing sections with high risk of accidents.
