
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has congratulated Cuban singer Omara Portuondo on her 88th birthday on Twitter.
After Diaz-Canel’s tweet, hundreds of users joined in the congratulations for the Queen of Feeling, one of the greatest representatives of this love genre on the island and also known as the Buena Vista Social Club’ diva.
The prestigious musician is one of the nominees in the Best Traditional Tropical Album section of the Latin Grammy Awards 2018 with the album ‘Omara siempre’ (‘Omara forever’), a production sealed by the Recording and Music Editions Company.
With this phonogram, the artist was awarded the Special Prize in the last edition of Cubadisco, the most important international fair of the Cuban music record industry.
In addition to these awards, Portuondo also received the Cuban National Music Award in 2006 and the Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Tropical Album in 2009 for its album Gracias (‘Thank You’).
