Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Saturday rejected the new obstacles set by the United States for Cuban citizens to travel to that country to visit their relatives.
That stance ‘constitutes an additional obstacle to the exercise of the Cuban citizens’ right to visit their relatives in that country’, he pointed out.
On Friday, the United States announced the modification in the visa procedures starting on Monday, March 18.
According to an official press release from the US Embassy in Havana, the measure will be applicable to the B2 visa for family visits, medical consults, tourism and shopping, which had been granted so far for five years and multiple entries.
No other visa categories for Cuban citizens will be subject to modifications, the US Embassy explained.
US authorities say that the decision is in reciprocity, because the US immigration law establishes that the visa tariffs and periods must be similar to the treatment given to US citizens.
