Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Friday described as slanderous the accusations against four Cuban medical collaborators detained in Bolivia for allegedly financing protests, and demanded their immediate release.
He called for an end to the political campaign to instigate acts of violence against Cuban personnel.
In addition to announcing the immediate withdrawal of Cuban doctors from Bolivia, the in a statement the Foreign Ministry described as false the accusations against Amparo Garcia, Idalberto Delgado, Ramon Alvarez and Alexander Torres, members of the Medical Brigade in El Alto.
The Ministry clarified that the four Cubans were arrested by police on traveling to their residence with money withdrawn from a bank to pay for the basic services and rent of the 107 members of their team.
It also indicated that representatives of the police and the Public Ministry visited the headquarters of the Medical Brigade in El Alto and La Paz and confirmed, based on documents, payrolls and bank details, that the amount of money they were carrying coincided with that regularly extracted every month.
Likewise, the text pointed out that the four Cuban collaborators have a recognized career according to their occupational profile and, like the others that provide their services in Bolivia, strictly and rigorously adhere to the humanitarian and cooperative efforts for which they traveled to that country, in accordance with intergovernmental agreements.(PL)
