At 29.3 centimeters will reach the rising sea level in Cuba by mid-century, say researchers Tuesday after the application of the improved version of a software designed to calculate that parameter.
Previous data indicated that by 2050 the increase in sea level would be 27 centimeters, while in 2100 it would reach 85.
In the researcher’s opinion, the figures obtained are higher than those of 10 years ago, so the impact of the sea rise must be greater than originally expected, especially in low-lying coastal areas and wetlands.
Such a projection would also worsen the effects of the emergence caused by the passage of hurricanes on the country, covering the sea greater spaces in settlements populations and farmland affected.
The emergence or storm surge is a notable rise in sea level that occurs when the tropical system reaches land and can cover a coastal stretch of more than 100 kilometers.
