With a legacy of 150 years and closely linked to the history of the Cuba National Anthem, the notable Band of Concerts of Bayamo is preparing a summer tour which will take it to several municipalities in the eastern province of Granma.

Founded by the musician and patriot Manuel Muñoz (1813-1895), the distinguished cultural institution is heir of that original group that, on June 11th, 1868, premiered the lyric of La Bayamesa war march, which became the patriotic song of the island.

Carlos Rafael Puig Batle, current director of the band, told ACN that the main motivation is to contribute to the rescue of values ​​in society, reason why they prepare a repertoire that is basically patriotic.

The program, he said, will include pieces of the universal and Cuban staves, typical of this type of format, an initiative that pays tribute to the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Cuba´s independence struggle, on October 10, 1868.

He noted that an extensive tour is planned, starting next July 6, which will taken them to the coastal, mountainious and plain locations of this territory.

The tour is sponsored by the Sindo Garay Trading Company of Music and Shows, and the Provincial Sector of Culture in Granma, he said.

After the death of the renowned composer, arranger, instrumentalist and director Carlos Puig Premión on last January, his previous director, the band is involve in a restructuring process and, it is not offering concerts at the moment, Puig Batle added.

Symbol of Cuban culture, the Bayamo Band of Concert has, among other awards, the National Vanguard condition and the distinction Utilidad de la Virtud, and is recognized by its longevity and excellent sonority.
