Two new researches of the Doctor of Medical Sciences Julio César González, second degree specialist in Internal Medicine and Intensive Care of the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Provincial Hospital in Bayamo, support the intense scientific work of this dedicated physician, who won the Citma 2018 Award.

The renowned doctor and researcher, tell us about these researches and their results.

The first research is the first report of extreme maternal morbidity in the province of Granma, which is a work that covers a characterization of extreme-severe maternal morbidity in an intensive care unit of a provincial reference, as the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes hospital of Bayamo, he said.

Dr. Gonzales added that it is a work that covers eight years, it is one of the first works on this health problem carried out in Cuba, covering all the indicator variables recommended by the World Health Organization.

In this work, a characterization is made starting from the causes of extreme maternal morbidity, the diseases that cause the maternal morbidity, the risk factors, he added.

The distinguished specialist specified that, it is a work that has an impact from the scientific point of view, because it allows to know the problematic and to draw up strategies to improve the indicators of this important health program in Cuba, which is the critical maternal program.

On the other hand shows the result we achieved in the province in this issue, which has been a very good result and that is due to the multidisciplinary work, he added.

The second research is the result of a national multicenter project, it is the results in the province, the project of the decrease of infection in intensive care, it is sponsored by the Cuban Society of Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine and the national specialty group. Our intensive care unit has been a pioneer, the work was among the seven first therapies in Cuba to make up this project, he added.

Currently, this work is rewarded for its social contribution with the introduction in Cuba, and in our province for the first time, we have managed to reduce infection rates especially of the pneumonias associated with mechanical ventilation and bacterial infections, which are two complications that serious patients can acquired, he noted.
