Members of the British royal family, Prince Charles of Wales and Duchess Camila of Cornwall, continue on Monday their official visit to Cuba where they will visit as part of their agenda the Special Economic Development Zone of Mariel, among other activities.
The royal couple will also attend a dinner hosted by the Head of State and enjoy a ballet gala at the Alicia Alonso Grand Havana Theater; they will also talk with entrepreneurs from the private sector and members of a British classic car club.
According to the program, the prince and the duchess will travel through community centers and art centers, and will be interested in actions in urban agriculture, combating domestic violence, preservation of the environment and heritage restoration.
A visit to the Mariel Special Development Zone for the ceremony to start the construction of a photovoltaic park with British support is also on the agenda.
The heir of the British throne and his wife paid tribute to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti, and accompanied by Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Ana Teresita Gonzalez, they toured the memorial of the same name, being the first activities undertaken after arriving in Cuba.
London and Havana consider the visit of their Highnesses as an opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties, although Prince Charles and his wife do not represent a government visit.
The relations between the United Kingdom and Cuba were boosted since the visit to Havana in 2016 of the then Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Philip Hammond (current Minister of Finance) and the visit in transit to the European country in November of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.
