Outstanding personalities of the culture sector received the Bayamo Prize 2018, on the occasion of the 505 anniversary of the founding of the city on November 5th, in recognition to their creative work of the year.  

In the ceremony held at the Protocol Hall of the Plaza de la Patria in the Monument City, were awarded Noyda González Tamayo, director of musical groups and Teófila Acea Antúnez, president of the José Martí Cultural Society, branch of Granma.

Also, the magician César Reyes Ampudia and René Guerra del Toro, founder of the Nueva Trova Movement.

On this occasion, the Bayamo Prize with honorific character was conferred to Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler, Historian of Havana City, for his contributions to the defense of Cuban culture and identity, the saxophonist Lino Horacio Borbolla Vargas, and to the Órgano oriental.

Upon receiving the award and on behalf of the honorees, Teófila Acea Antúnez expressed their gratitude, “today is a very special day for us” because “Bayamo is love,” she said.

The Bayamo Prize is granted by the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), of the province Granma´s branch, in recognition of the sustained work in the cultural field and contributions carried out in this sector.

The jury in this edition consisted of the Doctor of Science Juan Ramírez Martínez, as president, and the poet Abel Guerrero Castro poet and musician Luis Millet Yaque.

Since its creation in year 2004, the Bayamo Prize has been awarded to more than 50 personalities and several institutions of culture.
