This Sunday hundreds of people of Granma province paid homage to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the arrival of the caravan carrying his ashes to this National Monument city.
Children, young people, leaders, artists and neighbors of the capital of the eastern province of Granma, representing the people of the province, went to the Antonio (Ñico) López Museum Park, where they ratified their love and fidelity to the historic leader of the Revolution, and the commitment to keep up the ideals raised since the triumph of January 1st, 1959.
Melitza Laura Llovet, a first-year medical student, told the ACN that it is a great honor to pay tribute to Fidel, whose physical loss she felt a deep sorrow.
I went to this meeting to feel a little closer the Commander, said Carlos Santiago Castellanos, Melitza’s colleague, while Mariam Sucel Méndez considered it a duty to be present, to reaffirm that the young Cubans will continue to defend the legacy of the undefeated guerrilla.
Mirelis Echenique, artistic director of the evening, said that, like all her generation, she takes Fiel within herself, and for that reason she conceived a show for all types of audiences, but especially aimed at the new generations.
I wanted to pass on a message about the thought and presence of our eternal leader in the current work of the Revolution, she added.
The Cultural Political Evening included, among others, the performances of the professional choirs of Bayamo and Ismaelillo, troubadours, and outstanding singers such as Yudenia Manso and Magda Beatriz Rivera.
In the same place where they paid tribute on December 2, 2016, the people of Bayamo said Long life to Fidel, Raúl and the Revolution, while with music, poetry, dance, images were ratified feelings of love, loyalty unswerving faith in victory.
Once again, the “Ñico López”, former Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barrack was brightened, like that glorious day in which it was attacked by young revolutionaries, on July 26, 1953.
